Born in Rantoul, Illinois, David has been involved with music since he picked up a violin at the age of three. He progressed to trombone as he grew and discovered the piano at the age of 11 and playing organ at his local church through junior and high school. Finishing high school in Barrington, RI, he continued his education at Boston Conservatory of Music, majoring in Music education and piano. While in college, he bought his first of many synthesizers and remembers his peers and teachers 30 years ago scoffing at the idea that electronic keyboards would never become a “serious” musical instrument.
After leaving the Conservatory, David has toured
with several large bands that he formed, opening for many major
acts at many of the finest clubs on the East Coast. He managed
a Hammond Organ store in Boston before moving to San Jose, CA,
in 1978. In 1982 and 1983 he was asked to help open the
first U.S. Festivals for Steve Wozniak of Apple Computers. For
the past 28 years David has held executive positions in the music
retail industry— VP of Stevens Music and Operations Manager of
San Jose Music Center. He is co-founder of the Steinway Society
the Bay Area and founder of the Puget Sound Steinway Society and
currently a member of the President’s Club for Sherman Clay Pianos
representing the family of Steinway & Sons Pianos.
He has held long-term engagements as solo or ensemble keyboardist
at Silver Creek Country Club, La Rinconada Country Club, Lou’s
Village, Sainte Claire Hotel, DeAnza Hotel, Los Altos Bar &
Grill, and Bay 101. Among his many performances, David has
performed at countless corporate functions, benefits and weddings
also worked as a music agent through the Entertainment Connection
coordinating music and entertainment for many events and venues.
David has lead and formed a popular dance band for the last 23
years, The L’il Big Band.
Before briefly moving to the Northwest in 2001 he was inducted
into the Bay Area Hall of Fame for Musicians and given an award
by the Steinway Society for outstanding contribution to music
and the community. In 1992 he became Music Director of West Valley
Church of Religious Science and more recently been music director
and then coordinator at CSL San Jose where his belief in the philosophy
“change your thinking , change your life” has carried him through
many of life’s challenges.
